I want to share one monologue in Sex Education Season 4! Maeve is an excellent writer, but when she studies creative writing in a study abroad program, her teacher said something mean to her. He said “I don’t think you have the talent to be a writer.” Maeve was sad because of this, and she went back to her own country. However, she eventually came back to her teacher and said this:
“And even if that is true, your words really crushed me. I almost didn’t come back because of you. Unlike most students on this campus, I haven’t grown up being told I’m brilliant or deserving. If I take a risk, and it doesn’t work out, I don’t have a safety net to fall back on. You’re going to come across other students like me, so I just want you to know that, AS A TEACHER, YOUR WORDS HOLD A LOT OF POWER. I went home and reminded myself of what I’m made of and where I want to go. You don’t get to be the gatekeeper of my dreams.”
I admire her courage and power as a young writer, a strong woman.
I love this dialogue! Maeve is the kind of strong person who will use their wisdom to change and influence the world. And so are you! Thank you for sharing!
